Marino Ballena National Park for whale & dolphin Watching is an outstanding tour, due that, this is one of the most biological diverse marine ecosystems in Costa Rica.

But, Humpback whales won’t spend year round here. Their migrating season is from January to April and August to October, because of the great conditions of the tropical water and Marino Ballena rock formations, and because of available food, his is a perfect stop for whales to give birth and feed their young ones.

Playa Ventanas caverns and snorkeling included

Besides searching for different species of whales, dolphins, birds and turtles, we also go to a beautiful small beach, famous for its caverns and also stop at the best snorkeling area of the park.

  1. MarvinParra:

My mother and I traveled to Costa Rica from Colorado for her birthday for the first time in mid November and made a point of scheduling 1-2 activities per day over a 1 week period. Out of all the experiences we had this was by far the most special, memorable and invaluable.
Our snorkeling tour guide Enoc was very kind and attentive and not only made sure we were safe and accounted for the whole time, but also had eagle eyes and was able to point out various sea turtles, rays, colorful schools of fish and other marine fauna at the 2 spots we snorkeled at. My favorite part of snorkeling were the 5 sea turtles of various species within an arms reach of you, some of which breached for air within inches of our faces! (Please keep in mind you cannot touch them). The fresh fruit provided is some of the best you’ve ever had and you have a good chance of seeing whales, dolphins and flying fish on your way to and from the island; we had the fortune of seeing all 3!
In addition to snorkeling, we also had the experience of hiking Corcovado (the most biologically diverse place on the planet) with tour guide Eddie who was incredibly passionate about his love and education of the local species. Traveling around the island with him was akin to traveling with a jungle guru with a 6th sense as he knew where to look for every hidden animal in our vicinity as well as sharing correlating facts and information. Not only did we see and capture amazing pictures of bats, caterpillars, iguanas, birds of prey/owls, coatis and various other species with Eddie’s telescope and keen eyes, but he was actually able to read the jungle’s sounds and scale up a mountain at the drop of a hat to obtain incredible photos of a mother and baby Puma that were curiously lurking nearby.

Had I known this experience would have been as special and memorable as it was, I would have booked at LEAST one tour a day through Ballena Tour and their amazing guides! We couldn’t have been happier and I highly recommend this experience to anyone with a love of wildlife and adventure.
